Mumbai Games Basketball Event

  1. Format:
    1. The tournament will be played on league + knock out basis.
    2. The draws will be based on Seeding obtained from official association of Basketball. If there are no or limited seeding, the draws would be done randomly.

  1. The game will be played on a basketball half court. The court shall have a regular basketball playing court, two games can be conducted on single court simultaneously.
  2. Each team shall consist of a minimum of three (3) players, with a maximum of four (4) players (three (3) players on the court and one (1) substitute).** Before the game begins, ALL players MUST print and sign their names on each NBA 3X score sheet. Players cannot play up a division** All team members MUST wear the same color shirt.
  3. A size 6 ball shall be used in all categories.
  4. The game officials shall consist of one (1) referee and two (2) time/score keepers.
  5. A coin flip shall determine which team gets the first possession. The team that wins the coin flip can either choose to benefit from the ball possession at the beginning of the game or at the beginning of a potential overtime.
  6. Scoring -
    1. Every shot inside the arc shall be awarded one (1) point.
    2. Every shot behind the arc shall be awarded two (2) points.
    3. Every successful free throw shall be awarded (1) point.
  7. Playing time/winner of the game –
    1. One (1) period of 10 minutes playing time. The clock shall be stopped during dead ball situations and free throws. The clock shall be restarted after the exchange of the ball is completed (as soon as it is in the offensive team’s hands).
    2. However the first team which scores 21 points or more wins the game if it happens before the end of regular playing time. This rule applies to regular playing time only (not in a potential overtime).
    3. If the score is tied at the end of playing time, an extra period of time will be played. There shall be an interval of one (1) minute before the overtime starts. The first team to score two (2) points in the overtime wins the game.
    4. A team shall lose the game by forfeit if at the scheduled starting time the team is not present on the playing court with three (3) players ready to play.
  8. Fouls /free throws
    1. A team is in a team foul situation when it has committed seven (7) fouls.
    2. A player who has committed four (4) fouls must leave the game.
    3. Fouls during the act of shooting inside the arc shall be awarded one (1) free throw.
    4. Fouls during the act of shooting behind the arc shall be awarded two (2) free throws.
    5. Fouls during the act of shooting followed by a successful field goal shall be awarded one (1) additional free throw.
    6. Non-shooting fouls under penalty foul situation shall be awarded one (1) free throw
  9. Stalling -
    1. Stalling or failing to play actively (i.e. not attempting to score) shall be a violation.
    2. A team must attempt a shot within 12 seconds. The clock shall start as soon as the ball is in the offensive players’ hands (following the exchange with the defensive player or after a successful field goal underneath the basket).
  10. How the ball is played
    1. Following each successful field goal or last f ree throw:
      • A player from a non-scoring team will resume the game by dribbling or passing the ball from inside the court directly underneath the basket (not from behind the end line) to a place on the court behind the arc.
      • The defensive team is not allowed to play for the ball in the “no-charge semi-circle area” underneath the basket.
    2. Following each unsuccessful field goal or last free throw:
      • If the offensive team rebounds the ball, it may continue to attempt to score without returning the ball behind the arc.
      • If the defensive team rebounds the ball, it must return the ball behind the arc (by passing or dribbling).
    3. Possession of the ball given to either team following any dead ball situation shall start with an exchange of the ball (between the defensive and the offensive player) behind the arc at the top of the court.
    4. A player is considered to be “behind the arc” when neither of his feet are inside nor step the arc.
    5. In the event of a jump ball situation, the defensive team shall be rewarded the ball.
  11. Substitution -
    Substitutions can be done by any team when the ball becomes dead, prior to the check-ball. The substitute can enter the game after his teammate steps off the court and establishes a physical contact with him. Substitutions can only take place behind the end line opposite the basket and substitutions require no action from the referees or table officials.
  12. Time-out -
    One (1) 30-second time-out is granted to each team. A player can call the time-out in a dead ball situation.

  13. Other Rules:
  • Players will NOT be allowed to enter the court without an ID proof.
  • Players should always wear their Mumbai Games BIB.
  • Players found without the BIBs will be disqualified.
  • Players have to report at least 60 minutes before the scheduled time.
  • Players have to register at the Basket Ball registration desk at least 30 min prior to the start of their round.
  • Team has to wear identical color jersey to avoid confusion.
  • Courts for Practice or warm up will NOT be available.
  • Only those Teams whose matches are scheduled to start immediately should be in the court area.
  • Players whose matches are not scheduled to start immediately should be in the player’s area.
  • Players have to be in the player’s arena at all point of time.
  • Audience and supporters are NOT allowed on the playing area.
  • Players have to clarify the rules with the court referee before the start of the match.
  • No abusive language, violence or arguments will be allowed. If found so the player/team will be disqualified.
  • In case of dispute, teams have to submit a formal written complaint within 15minitues from the occurrence of the dispute. Referee Decision will be final and binding.
  • The Referees decision will be final and binding for all matters pertaining to the event/tournament

NOTE:
All the players of the team must fall within the age bracket as specified in the registration form. The entire team will be disqualified if any player is found to be of an invalid age.
Participants in only sport shoes will be allowed. Participants in floaters or slippers will not be allowed to play.
Players will strictly have to wear sports attire– T-shirts, shorts or track pants. No casual trousers like jeans etc. or formal dresses will be permitted.
In the event of inclement weather or unforeseen circumstances, SportzConsult reserves the right to alter the tournament format.
RULES AND REGULATIONS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE.REFEREES AND ORGANIZERS DECISION WILL BE FINAL AND BINDING.
ALL TECHNICAL RULES WILL BE CLARIFIED AT THE EVENT DAY.
